Charar-i-Sharif is counted as one of the most sacred Muslim shrine in India. The shrine is located at a distance of 40 km from Srinagar, enroute to Yusmarg. This ancient wooden shrine is approximately 600 years old and it was built to commemorate Sheikh Noor-ud-Din Noorani, a Sufi saint. It was rebuilt in 1995 when the major portion of the shrine was destroyed by the Pakistani militants. The devotees from all faiths throng the shrine to seek divine blessings.
