The Phyang Monastery is a traditional Buddhist monastery in Ladakh and it is famous for its colorful festival with masked dance. It is located around 6 km away from the Srinagar- Leh highway and 20 kms from Leh Town. This gompa being on the hilltop resembles quite like the Likir Monastery. It was built in the 16th century and belongs to the Gelugpa sect. It hosts an annual festival ‘Tseruk’ that falls on the 2nd and 3rd day of the 6th month of Tibetan Calendar. One of the attractions of this monastery is its 900 years old museum, which has wonderful collection of Chinese, Tibetan and Mongolian articles. Tourists visiting the monastery can also make a tour to the Phyan Lake at just a few kilometers distance.
