Chemrey Gompa or Chemrey Monastery, situated in 40 km (25 miles) east of Leh town, is a Buddhist monastery that was built in 1664 by Lama Tagsang Raschen and it is dedicated to King Sengge Namgyal. This ancient monastery has a distinguished high statue of Padmasambhava. It also boasts of prized collections of scriptures with silver page and text in gold. This monastery belongs to the Drugpa order and it also serve as the residence of 20 monks and their apprentices of this order. An annual festival is held in this monastery during 28th and 29th day of 9th month of the Tibetan Calendar.
