Kargil War Memorial was built by the Indian army to commemorate 267 war martyrs who lost their lives during the war of Karil with Pakistani soldiers in the late nineties. It houses some of the major series of events of the war along with the sandstone wall engraved with the names of all Indian soldiers who sacrificed their live during the war. There is a memento shop that sells hats, T-shirts, coffee mugs designed in memory of the war. The memorial is placed by the side of national highway from Srinagar to Leh. Visitors can witness some of the peaks that Indian army recaptured from the occupation of Pakistani soldiers.
