The ancient fort of Hiranagar once known as Jasmergarh fort evokes the historical stories of rulers of Jasrota clan of Rajputs. Ruins of the fort also remind the glory of erstwhile Dogra Kingdom. According to legend, Raja Hira Singh, son of Raja Dhyan Sing had built the town of Jasmergarh when was the jagir of Jasrota under the reign of Maharaja Ranjit Singh. Since then, the fort and township was named after his name.

The fort of Hiranagar, once a symbol of royal grandeur is now in ruin condition. However, the depleted fort houses a sanctum sanctorum of Mahakali, which is the prime attraction of the fort now. The Hiranagar fort is located in Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir. It is ideally situated 5km south from NH 1A. Devotees from all over the district come and visit the temple of the fort. According to local legend, the temple was established by Maharaja Hari Singh.
